My Weekly Writing Update (22)

Because what's a writing blog without a writing update?

As you have seen, my main focus as of right now is If Only We, a young adult contemporary novel. I am in the process of revising and rewriting this one.

If Only We - current word count total is 57,556.
current revision word count is 8,685

That's right. We've got a revision word count now. Booyah!

I've gotten through the first four chapters and I was right, they were pretty much set. I only had to change a couple tiny things and I was done. I was hoping to get through the fifth chapter too but there wasn't enough time this week. What can I say? I get distracted sometimes.

This week's distractions: How I Met Your Mother marathon (in which I watched all of seasons one and two, plus the first disc of season three) and writing poetry. I started going through my old journals and found some gems in the words I wrote (whether it was under duress or confusion, mostly confusion). As a matter of fact, I believe the above picture is of me writing in my journal.

So, goal for this coming week is the following: get through another four chapters! The fifth one should be pretty easy, but beyond that I can't remember where some of the plot changes started. Ha! Should be a decent goal to reach out for though.

Shouldn't be too hard... as long as I don't spend all of my free time on TV on DVD marathons...

My Weekly Writing Update (21)

Because what's a writing blog without a writing update?

As you have seen, my main focus as of right now is If Only We, a young adult contemporary novel. I am in the process of revising and rewriting this one.

If Only We - current word count is 57,556.

So, I FINALLY started edits on If Only We. True edits. None of that preliminary checking the grammar crap (even though that was SOOO necessary). Sure, I'm only halfway through the first chapter BUT I fixed one of the problems with it due to a change I made later on. For some reason, the first few chapters are pretty solid if I remember correctly. It's as time goes on that it starts getting a little messy and harder to hold together. There's just so much going on with the characters and the timelines intersecting that it can easily fall apart if I'm not paying attention. Plus, I blame the slight changes I have come up with in the meantime to clean up the plot holes.

Gotta love those moments when you originally have your character do one thing and then later on you change your mind and forgot your character did that one thing and then you say something that causes the two situations to collapse the whole point of the story... but I digress...

I probably WOULD have gotten the whole first chapter read through and revised if not for getting distracted with my journal. I opened it up to look for something and ended up finding a passage that I wrote that sounded like a poem. What is a poet to do but to turn it INTO a poem immediately? I love that feeling... putting together the perfect words and phrases into an emotion filled poem. It gives me goosebumps and chills and makes me feel alive.

*ahem* I need to un-distract myself here and get back to the point. By this time next week, I am hoping to be through all of these supposedly "solid" first few chapters. If they're mostly together, shouldn't be too difficult to get through them, right? The faster I can get through these revisions, the better!

My Weekly Writing Update (20)

Because what's a writing blog without a writing update?

As you have seen, my main focus as of right now is If Only We, a young adult contemporary novel. I am in the process of revising and rewriting this one.

If Only We - current word count is 57,556.

I got out my If Only We notebook and went through it to refresh my memory. It's not as intimidating as it seemed before. In fact, I'm feeling AMAZING about this. As I was getting ready for work, it was on my mind and I began coming up with ways to fix some problems. I got so excited and ran to write down the ideas.

I had a conversation with a friend today about it. I said, "I have this good feeling about my writing suddenly." And they asked, "Why suddenly?" And I said, "Because it feels like all the pieces are finally falling into place. The plot holes I had are getting filled in and it's starting to work. Taking a break from it was the best thing I've done. I'm looking at it with fresh eyes and a mind that is thinking clearly." Seriously, I cannot emphasize more how much of a difference it has made, and I've barely gotten into the editing. I am definitely going to talk about this more sometime once I get closer to being finished.

Also, in case you guys missed it last week, I officially have a Facebook page for my writing. Like it and share it with your friends. Thank you! <3

Dude! I almost forgot to update this. Blast! That's what I get for spending all that time getting my book blog back together...

In any case!

I'm working on getting my official Facebook page together so that I can share a link with you guys on here and you can "like" my page. You'll be able to keep up with more things going on in this writer's world on Facebook more than on here. On here will be more lengthy discussions and shares, but I'll add on little snippets of what I'm doing at the moment on Facebook or throw out questions to you guys at random. I will have a link to share for you at the end of the week.

And... I'll have to update that word count. Not that I've done anything dramatic recently, but I did have a different word count after my first run through of grammar edits. THEN will come major edits. This will be excitement at its best! ;)
